MOHAI Call for Volunteers: Pub Trivia Outreach Program

News

Do you love hanging-out in bars, meeting new people, and learning fascinating tidbits about where you live, work, and play? If so, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) has the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! We’re looking for energetic and out-going volunteers to assist in running our popular Pub Trivia Outreach Program that connects with hundreds of Seattle residents at local bars and taverns all over the city. Our next 8-week season runs from February 20 – April 13, 2012. This volunteer position is a great way for young adults- or for those young at heart- to gain experience working with an established museum, while meeting new people and having fun.

MOHAI Pub Trivia Goals:
The goal of this program is to effectively reach out to adult audiences (aged 21-60 years) in a fun and unexpected environment, and to connect these audiences with the history of Seattle, the Puget Sound, and Washington State. Our secondary goal is to increase public awareness of MOHAI and the museum’s new location at Lake Union Park, scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email Kimberly Jacobsen, Volunteer Coordinator, at kimberly.jacobsen@seattlehistory.org or call (206) 324-1126, ex. 18.

Geek Bowl in Denver

News

We have it on good authority that tickets are still available for Geek Bowl V, being held on January 29th, 2011 in Denver, CO.

Put on by Geeks Who Drink, who are responsible for more than a few Seattle-area quiz nights, this is billed as the largest pub trivia event in the United States (though we’re not certain the Fillmore Auditorium properly counts as a pub). 150 teams will compete from all over, with the top three taking home money and glory. (And the money is significant. Last year the top three teams split $4000 and the purse is expected to be even larger this year.)

We’re told that at least one Seattle team has confirmed as well as two Seattle-area quizmasters (Jon from the Ballard Loft and Sean from Redhook). If you’re interested in joining them, details and tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets. And be sure to drop us a line and let us know how you do.
